This restaurant tops our list for ultimate food joints in Rome!!! It has only been open since recently (2014) but in a bit over a year it has gained an incredible popularity – especially amongst the locals! Maybe it is because of their stunning deal for lunch that they have Monday through Friday but apart from that their entire menu and super friendly staff make it a 5 star place… Just checked their tripadvisor ratings and for some reason they are placed at No: 2046 out of 8669 establishments in Rome. No idea how this is at all possible as Porto is probably one of the best places to eat in town considering the ratio price/quality. Their 9 Euro all-you-can-eat deal for lunch is simply unbeatable! The buffet includes not only pasta and salads but plenty of choices of fish and meat, awesome desserts… The prices of their normal menu are more than fair. And the fact that it is located in Prati, within the premises of The Vatican (generally known as a bit of a pricy area) makes it extra precious! So, if you happen to be by The Vatican and you wonder where to grab some proper meal for lunch Porto is that place! Just take our word for granted!
Punturi Groceries & Restraurant
Via Flavia, 48, 00187 Roma RM
Tel.: 06 481 8225
Here’s another spot that fits our ultimate food category parameters! Punturi is one of those traditional Italian family owned “Alimentari” that is more or less like a mini market where you can buy pretty much anything to eat or drink! Their pasta, cheese and cold cut selection is remarkable though – and all of if at a very high quality! Maybe it won’t be the cheapest you can find around but the prices are more than fair considering the central location of the store! It could be also defined as one of those Italian Fast Food joints – they can prepare a quick sandwich for you with all those cheeses and different cold cuts they have. Without a doubt the best corner in their store is the stand with the pizza by the slice – they have their own oven and obviously the pizza is their own production! Apart from pizza they usually offer a few trays with freshly cooked meals and if you bet on their lasagna that might be the best one you have ever tried while in Rome. Punturi Family owns the restaurant next to the Grocery Store and that is something extraordinary! Especially if you need to go there for lunch! The place gets super packed with locals (your safest bet that it is not a tourist trap). They have extremely cheap deals which attract all the office workers from nearby government buildings during their lunch break! Imagine paying 10 or 15 Euro for a 2 course meal? The chefs stick to the typical recipes for the Roman Cuisine – carbonara, matriciana and cacio e pepe! You cannot beat that in the historical centre of Rome! Their dinner menu doubles up but the prices remain in their fair range – 25-30 Euro seals you a large dinner with a dessert and a drink. Service is quick and they greet you with a big smile on the face! #amustdowhileinrome
